You will be able to see the syncing status of your files in Windows Explorer under the Status column. Open your OneDrive folder and folders will display one of these status symbols:

  • Blue Cloud - This indicates that the file is being primarily stored in the cloud, and is not taking up any space on your machine. To access this file, the OneDrive client needs to be running, and you need to have an active internet connection.
  • Hollow Green Tick - This indicates that the file is stored on both your local PC and has been replicated to the cloud. This can be accessed regardless of whether you are connected to the internet or not.
  • Bold Green Tick - This indicates that the file is permanently stored on your PC, and won't be automatically moved by and Storage Sense or automatic clean up programs.
  • Red Cross - This indicates that there has been an error with syncing the file in question. This could stem from illegal characters in the file name, or that the file path is too long or simply that there was an issue with syncing. You can check what the problem is by clicking on the blue OneDrive logo in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen on the taskbar
  • 2 Circling Blue Arrows - This indicates that the file is syncing to OneDrive at the moment. Once completed this should either convert to a  hollow green tick or a blue cloud.
